v3.67: Historic Data in Watchlist & Screener

We’ve expanded our database to introduce historic periods of data and averages to Watchlist, Screener, and Market Scatter.

With this update, you can now analyze multi-year history directly in tables and screens to:

  • Track how key metrics have changed over time
  • Compare current values to long-term averages
  • Spot consistent outperformers and flag one-off results
  • Identify valuation shifts relative to historical norms
  • Build screens that look beyond the latest data point
  • Create formulas that calculate changes or trends across multiple periods

What’s New

Historic data has always been available in Graphs, the Financial Analysis (FA) section, and the Actuals & Consensus page. That same depth of history is now available directly in Watchlists, Screeners, and Market Scatter.

You can now:

  • Add historic fiscal year (FY) and fiscal quarter (FQ) data for any supported metric
  • View historic averages such as 3-year, 5-year, and 10-year
  • Use historic values in custom formulas to create your own metrics
  • Screen securities by historic values and averages
  • Visualize historic relationships in Market Scatter

Historic data is available for thousands of metrics across financials, valuations, margins, and ratios.

How to Use Historic Data

1.  Watchlist

Add historic data as columns

  1. In your Watchlist, click Columns.
  2. Search for a metric (e.g., EBIT margin).
  3. Select periods from:
  • FQ History (FQH) – past fiscal quarters
  • FY History (FYH) – past fiscal years
  • Historic Average (HA) – 3-, 5-, or 10-year averages

Create formulas with historic values

  1. In your Watchlist, click Columns and select Custom Columns & Formulas.
  2. Pick your data points from Selected Data Items.
  3. Build your formula and add it as a column to your table.

2.  Screener

Filter by historic values and averages

  1. Create or open a Screener.
  2. Under Filter Criteria, select your metric and desired historic period or average.
  3. Apply thresholds to refine results.

3.  Market Scatter

Compare current vs. historic performance visually

  1. Select your universe (index, ETF holdings, or Watchlist).
  2. Assign historic metrics to the X- and/or Y-axis.
  3. Use the regression line to identify companies performing above or below their historical averages.

Examples & Ideas

1. Consistently high ROIC
Focus on companies with sustained strong returns.

  • Set it up: In the Screener, filter for ROIC above 20% on both 5-year and 10-year averages.

2. Profitability turnarounds
Find businesses moving from losses to profits – often a sign of renewed growth or efficiency gains.

  • Set it up: In the Screener, filter for positive EBIT in the most recent fiscal quarter and negative EBIT in the past 3 years.

3. Valuation opportunities
Spot stocks trading below their historical valuation.

  • Set it up: In the Screener, filter for current PE below 25 and 5-year average PE above 25. Layer in additional valuation metrics for added granularity.

4. Current vs. long-term margins
See which companies are outperforming or lagging their historical cash flow margins.

  • Set it up: In Market Scatter, plot current free cash flow margin against 5-year average free cash flow margin.

5. Revenue growth trends
Track whether revenue growth is accelerating or slowing.

  • Set it up: In a Watchlist, add historic revenue and calculate YOY growth for the past 5 quarters.

Historic Data in Watchlist, Screener, and Market Scatter is available for Plus and higher plans.
