Inactive Securities

Koyfin now supports inactive securities: companies and funds which have stopped trading. These securities have been delisted for reasons such as bankruptcy or acquisition. Examples include Twitter, Blockbuster, LinkedIn, Enron, and thousands more.

You can find inactive securities in ticker search, on Overview and Description snapshots, in Graphs, and in Model Portfolios.

Inactive securities now appear in ticker search alongside publicly traded securities. Inactives are distinguishable by the _I suffix following their ticker, as well as an inactive badge.

Inactive coverage includes stocks, ETFs, closed-end funds, preferred securities, and warrants.

Inactive securities have Overview and Description snapshots:

  • The Overview snapshot lets you review the security’s price history, returns, key data, valuation, and capital structure up to its last available date.
  • The Description snapshot shows the company profile, business description, price data, and available financial metrics.

A banner at the top of the snapshots indicates that the security is no longer trading and gives the date of its last available data. Time-based metrics use the security’s last trading day as the endpoint. This includes the price chart, 52-week high and low, and returns.

Available data varies by security. Price, market cap, enterprise value, and financials are shown when available. News and forward-looking data, such as analyst estimates and next earnings dates, are not available for inactive securities.

Chart an inactive security

You can add an inactive security to Graphs and chart it alongside active securities, making it easy to compare its historical performance with peers or an index. The chart ends on the security’s last trading day, so time-based periods are measured from that date.

Add inactive securities to Model Portfolios

Inactive securities can be added to Model Portfolios either manually in the model editor or through an import. Their price history is included through the last trading day.

If a security becomes inactive during the model’s history, its weight continues to use its last available price until the next allocation change. To reweight the model after that point, add a new allocation date on or after the security’s last trading day.
